INTERNATIONAL CLOSING CONFERENCE ON THE CAPLOCOM PROJECT
On May 21, 2022 Forest Institute – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from Bulgaria organized and held an international final conference on the project “Building capacity for sustainable use of ecosystem services by local communities in mountain areas” /CAPLOCOM/ under the Cross-Border Cooperation Program INTERREG-IPP TGS between Republic Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia 2014 – 2020
The event was organized jointly with the project partners: Local Agency for Economic Development – Razlog from Bulgaria /leading partner/ and Ecological Association “Zdravets 2002” from North Macedonia.
During the final conference held at the “Tera Complex” hotel in the “Kulinoto” area near the city of Razlog, the goals, activities and achieved results of the project were presented.
An evaluation of the completed project activities was made in front of 89 local stakeholders and guests. Emphasis was placed on the contribution and benefits of the project results, as well as future joint activities were outlined – future opportunities for involving the young generation in similar initiatives and partnerships.

Local Economic Development Agency – Razlog will conduct a press conference for presenting to local stakeholders the goals, activities and expected results under “Empowering businesses Seeking Growth” project, which has been approved for funding under the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme INTERREG V-A “Greece-Bulgaria” 2014-2020 and the project is implementing in partnership between Greek and Bulgarian organizations.
The project envisages interventions in the scope of enhancement of the entrepreneurship culture, assisting business creation, building new skills and supporting new and/or existing enterprises. Actions that aim at promoting an ecosystem that nurtures entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs in the CB and so on to the improvement of entrepreneurship SME support systems. More specifically, it will be fostered an environment, supportive of entrepreneurs, by tailoring services to their real needs, promoting positive media coverage and bringing them together.

INTRODUCTORY INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR
under project CB 006.2.11.103 “Capacity building for sustainable use of ecosystem services by local communities in mountainous areas” – CAPLOCOM
On June 4, 2021, at the Terra Complex Hotel, near Razlog, an International Seminar “Raising Awareness and Readiness for Cooperation in Capacity Building for Better Management of Natural Resources” was held under the project “Capacity Building for Sustainable Use” of ecosystem services from local communities in mountain regions ”, co-financed by the EU through the INTERREG-IPA CBC CBC Program between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia 2014 – 2020 with CCI № 2014TC16I5CB006.
The seminar was organized by SOPD “MAIR – Razlog” – a leading partner in the project, with the assistance of other partners Ecological Association “Zdravets 2002”, Makedonska Kamenica, Republic of Northern Macedonia and the Institute of Forestry – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences / IG-BAS /
The event brought together over 100 people interested in nature conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, as well as the integration of ecosystem services in urban and spatial planning – experts, scientists, responsible institutions and authorities, NGOs, young people and other stakeholders. The aim of the seminar was to acquaint the participants from the target municipalities – Razlog, Bulgaria and Makedonska Kamenica, Republic of Northern Macedonia with current forest problems in the cross-border region and to motivate them to take an active part in protecting natural resources and sustainable use of ecosystem services.
Invited external experts – Prof. Maria Nijnik (James Hutton Institute, UK) and Prof. Odvar Skre (Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomics Research, Norway) gave online presentations on “Social Innovation in Marginalized Rural Areas” and “Ecosystems” services in Norway – focus on sensitive forest ecosystems “.

On May 17, 2021, in the office of “Local Agency for Economic Development-Razlog” – MAIR-Razlog – leading project partner, in Bulgaria, Razlog, 8 Macedonia Square, the first working meeting of the project “Construction of capacity for sustainable use of ecosystem services by local communities in mountain regions “, co-financed by the EU through the Interreg-IPA Interregional Cooperation Program between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia 2014 – 2020 with CCI № 2014TC16I5CB006 (Acronym: CAPLOCOM; Re; CB 006.2.11.103/Subsidy contract №: RD 02-29-68 / 05.03.2021).
The meeting was attended by representatives of all project partners: SOPD “MAIR – Razlog”, Ecological Association “Zdravets 2002”, Makedonska Kamenica, Republic of Northern Macedonia and the Institute of Forestry – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences / IG-BAS /.
The main topic of the workshop was the coordination of the actions of the partners in connection with the implementation of Activity 1: International Opening Seminar “Raising Awareness and Readiness for Cooperation in Capacity Building for Better Management of Natural Resources”, dated 4 June 2021 The aim of this activity is to acquaint the experts and stakeholders from the target municipalities – Razlog and Makedonska Kamenica with the current problems of forests in the cross-border region and to motivate them to take an active part in the protection of natural resources and sustainable use of ecosystem services. The seminar will bring together 100 participants: experts (foresters, ecologists, urban planners) and representatives of interested institutions from Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia – environmental NGOs, schools, universities, research institutes, public authorities and other stakeholders. The seminar will be held in Razlog. The tasks and responsibilities of each of the project partners were distributed – transport to the place, accommodation of the participants, invitations for participation of the experts and official guests from the Bulgarian and Macedonian side.
The joint activities on the forthcoming tasks for the next quarter were planned.
